He could assassinate the entire gop and he wouldn't go too far.

It's not often someone injects a little fun into politics. It's a pleasant respite from the never ending torrent of shit.

Can we go back to the political scene of our president embracing memes? The "Thanks Obama" clip of Obama was peak.

Also comedy is great at delegitimizing fascists. For one they can't make jokes, their humor is cruelty. And two they can not stand being made fun of.

Newsome is far from perfect, but now is not the time for the left's usual infighting and purity tests. He's going hard and actually being a strong leader and he needs our full, uncompromised support.

Same bullshit as always. It's never time to go against the corporate interests.

What the hell does that have to do with what I said, and only what I said, and not what you chose to pretend is implied by what I didn't say?
This ought to be good.

You don't put out a house fire by stocking the garage with more wood. Electing opportunists and milquetoast corporate-owned moderates with no principles for decades are why America is where it is.

Yall seen the video where the trump ear photos were being blatantly staged. It leaked a while back and there is no disputing that whole thing was choreographed. Somebody must have it here, link it!

3 weeks ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 10

"There is evidence! I don't have it. But somebody must have it." is not enough to convince me of anything. Especially of something that doesn't even matter. Whether it was choreographed or not won't change the outcome of the next election or anything else. It's a waste of time.

as soon as his hand hit his ear and came away bloody i thought 'blood bag' [stage prop].

3 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

Trump is pumped with bloodthinners. There are several indications that he is to prevent another aneurysm or stroke. Remember when he was called out when he had 3 red points on his hand, which later was claimed blisters from golfing. When it were blisters, then the reason why they were still bright red: Bloodthinners. Same with the ear: When he was on bloodthinners he would bleed like a pig even on a slight cutt. And it heals slowly.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Most likely it was the cut on his hand from broken glass transferring blood, note there was no new blood unless his hand was there, and he had a super fine cut on his palm for months.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Doesn't help that he stubbornly stopped wearing his bandage within a week (probably too lazy or vain) and there was visibly no scab or scar. Pretty neat that a "bullet wound" can heal that quickly.

3 weeks ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

But, he did have a fine scar on his palm for months after, a very fine glass cut... and the secret service guys were warning about glass, and Trump said he needed his shoes, there is glass...

Am I supposed to feel bad someone who went to a Trump rally to cheer him died? Because I don't.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Trump has taken every chance he's had to capitalize on both the event, and their deaths.

3 weeks ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

wait what... it's either fake or it's real. post says it was faked but comment says people died (real) and you say he capitalized on the deaths. Are you holding onto both? that it is fake and people died?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Well you're combining different people's opinions into one question, so ooooooook. But do you not recognize that an event could be fake and that it can still have real consequences? In regards to my comment why does it matter if it's real or staged for somebody to use it to their advantage?

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

apologies thought you were the initial comment saying it was staged on a post about it being staged.
why fake the blood on the ear at all? to prove it narrowly escaped an assassination yeah? if faking blood on an ear was the enhance the drama then why not fake a death or fake a victim in the crowd instead of real bullets with real people and real death? What was fake and what was real? and sure how someone treats the reaction to an event should be separate from the event I think for now

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sure all valid questions. I can come up with answers for any of them that are logical but not necessary. Why blood? Cause it looks better in a photo op. Why kill a dude? Cause they don't give a shit about people, like at all. At the end of the day though, and what should be damning enough to bar him from office is that even if it is all real... The fact that it's a completely fair statement to say that he would fake or stage something up to and including the death of others without hesitation.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Prove those people existed...

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 15

whoa ho hooo it was Biden's secret service there who said it was all real and what do you mean prove they exist? Corey Comperatore footage on the day is horrendous and PBS reported on him and his family loss - Joe Biden personally spoke to the family too

but like dozen other people shot and Corey Comperatore is dead - the footage on the day is horrendous and PBS reported on him and his family loss - Joe Biden personally spoke to the family too https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/former-fire-chief-corey-comperatore-who-died-at-trump-rally-used-his-body-to-protect-family-from-gunfire
not sure what the ear has to do with this

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Biden *tried* to speak to the family, but the family was so invested in the Maga cult that the widow refused to speak to him because "my husband wouldn't like that" (paraphrased)

Meanwhile Trump parades the dead guys firefighter coat on stage.

And Maga goes on about "a guardian angel saved daddy Trump" ignoring the bullet being guided into Comperatore (because they don't actually care about other people)

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good show. Look, an Ar15's projectile will shred & burn the tissue it touches. .22 - .223 - 7.62 - 300 black out...Leaving a scar for months. I see nothing after the shooting. We all know he thinks his base is moronic however, the laws of physics are immutable on this planet. Does he actually think he can cheat the physical world as well? I would not be surprised to hear he tried

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think he got a small nick in his ear from the teleprompter glass that was hit by a bullet. Ears bleed a lot. He is definitely still saying he got shot though, but he clearly didn't.

Might be a little cynical, but I think he’s doing these things, in part, to look good for a future presidential campaign

3 weeks ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 12

Really? Because to me this does the opposite. But it makes him a bloody great governor.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

The majority of politicians are self serving

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He tried to shift right and did a whole podcast circuit, but it failed, so now he's doubling down on the dems.

Frankly though, a slimey bastard is fine as long as he's going after the things and people we need someone to go after.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If only he weren't going after our homeless and transgender family, maybe we could be more enthusiastic.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. Also this isn't what i want a presidential campaign to be. Someone on CNN saying "isn't he so presidential" like The Idiot

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Entirely. He's stil a transphobe that hates the homeless.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, 100%

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It also seems to be one of the few legitimate ways to attack he and his surrogates. I hope Pritzger gets in on it, dude is a fuckin genius.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He’s been working that trajectory for decades. It’s been common knowledge that he plans a run since he was SF mayor. Trolling Trump and spreading a bit of hope is a damn fine way to do it.

Is he a perfect candidate? Hell no. Is he 10,000% better than anyone from the other side? Hell yes. He’s not stupid. He has a consistent record, “centrist” as it is. And he’s reasonably electable. If he wants to run, I say go for it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

That's been obvious since his days as mayor in SF.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He has been very overt about it. Any world where Newsom is the good guy and right choice is a really sad one, because he's the epitome of center-right liberalism. Having said that, I will take that 100% of the time over nazis

3 weeks ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Yep, reals of Fetterman style shit posting. Probably to be followed up by shitting on the left and making friends with nazis

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

As a European I do hope someone like him wins in your next election, assuming you have one.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ya think?

3 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Let's be real here, my American siblings in Jibbers: (a) there is little chance for a left-leaning 3rd party presidential run; voting for them will help the GOP; (b) not voting for the mainstream Dem will help the GOP; (c) there is currently no face in the political centre that has any sort of recognition or even a long shot at the presidency. I suggest you get ready to vote for the next-best thing (Newsom), and do it in droves, as soon as you get the chance. You're not marrying him.

3 weeks ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

This^

3 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Vote blue no matter who for the presidency, but be stricter for smaller elections. Keep GOP out of the presidency no matter what, but try to change the Democratic party more left at the lower levels and hope it trickles up to shift the party, is what I'm an advocate for.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

He's human fucking garbage who has committed crimes against humanity. I would consider him if he would come out against genocide, but we all know that he won't.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

Good point. I mean it's logical: There's a guy you only partially see eye-to-eye with. Who maybe lacks a moral spine by your own, valid metric. Granted. You don't have to agree with him to prefer him to outright, mask-off fascism. That is the alternative. Throwing the ball to Cheetler, who is actively dismantling the rule of law in your own bloody home, and who stands against *everything* you stand for. Cf. point (b) in my comment above.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You know, if everyone who said "you have to vote for the genocidal maniac if you don't want the other genocidal maniac to win" instead said "I won't vote for a genocidal maniac," maybe we'd have fewer genocidal maniacs running.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Look, I don't think I'll be able to change your mind. If you see, anywhere on the horizon, a Dem candidate who might be able to gather enough momentum to flush the fascists out of DC, ignore all their flaws for the time being, and run with them. You guys live in a 50:50 binary "Democracy", and I'm sorry to say that if you go for the 25-25:50 split, you will always, always lose to the fashies. And who knows: Maybe in the 2030s, the Canadians will invade to get rid of Trumpism for you.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of course. If he makes it past the primary.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fucks sake.
When will ye learn the fucking lesson: voting for the less bad candidate still ends up with sliding right.

You have 3 years to force candidates to adopt actual left wing policies, pressure them, refuse to support them otherwise, demand change.
But no, here we are with "well look, we gotta just give in and vote for a shitty candidate".
What incentive is there for them to do better if you are going to vote for them just because of the (d) after their name???

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

3 years isn't enough time for a presidential. You don't start at the top.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ya no shit. And newsom is a scumbag, make no mistake about it. That being said this campaign is fucking hilarious and I love it

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

Why would that be cynical? I think he is and he isn't exactly hiding it. Good for him.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's working. Mainly because it's the first real backbone the democrats have shown, taking the higher ground is not working. It's time to get into the mud with the pigs.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Zohran Mamdani has been showing a hell of a backbone and the Dem establishment has been trying to take him down the whole time. Newsom's team knows the DNC is looking for anyone to run in 2028 that *isn't* an actual progressive, and this is their way of pushing him while also trying to steal the limelight from Mamdani's mayoral campaign, because they know that'll endear the party to Newsom. This all of course assumes there'll be an election in 2028, which I doubt.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm a huge fan of Zohran as well. Lets be honest though he's not gonna be running for president and while i really really really hope New York does the right thing with him we also really need to establish a popular front runner to combat whatever fuckery they are gonna try and pull in 2028.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, and I will fight him tooth and nail. I do not want to vote for that neoliberal asshole.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I'm assuming this was made by the twitter handle PaulleyTicks. Just judging by the watermark. All the others were posted by Gavin's account.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He’s been staring at that chair and been looking to make inroads that will peel so-called “centrist” voters off of the Republican party since at least 2023. Democrats are so starved for any sort of energy (remember when Tim Walz called the right weird, the right had a fucking shitfit, and the Dems decided they had to stop that, bring Liz Cheney on stage, and insist nothing will change if they’re reelected?) People on the left want to fight back, politicians on the “left” are too busy 1/

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

wringing their hands, writing stern letters, and being overall ineffective leaders (talking folks like Schumer, Jeffries, et al). I think it might, FINALLY be getting through to at least some of them that “civility” is dead as far as our politics right now, and they need to start fighting on the same playing field.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He is, and as a progressive, I'm not really keen on that, given his past track record. I could be wrong, and he could be great, but I fear I'm right and he'll be another mediocre, do-nothing Dem in office.

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Man, the last two Dems in office were literally faced with a GOP whose one agenda was sabotage everything the Dems try to get through (e.g. gerrymandering rules), and outright cheat and lie to top up the SC. Obama got the ACA through, FFS. The problem isn't "do-nothing Dems" but the relentless power grabbing on the GOP's side -- which comes easily when you have no moral principles. But it's a dangerous narrative to blame the Dems for this. (Still: Fuck Sinema and Manchin hard.)

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know the last two dems in office worked hard. I call them Do Nothing Dems because they refused to fight as hard as the GOP. Whenever The GOP did something to disrupt anything progressive happening, the Dem in question either caved immediately, or Compromized much more than they should have. The ACA under Obama and Student Debt Forgiveness under Biden are both prime examples. I want to hear a Dem president say Fuck you, we're doing Medicare for All anyway even if you don't like it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So what? Let him have his motivations. Important thing is he's encouraging Democrats to go on offense and forget the 90s for the first time. There is simply no price you can put on that that.

3 weeks ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

The "finally, actually doing something" part is fine. The problem is that part of his strategy for appealing to the "swing voters" has been to trample homeless and transgender people.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you're drowning and someone throws you a rope, you grab it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sure, but if there's anyone in the primaries (assuming they happen) who will throw a rope to me AND my family, I'll take that person over this schlub any day.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless we all pull together right now and create new ways to fight back, the menu of democracy where we pick a perfect candidate may be gone in the next few years, never to return.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seconded. You can't cynic yourself into a winning presidential run. Yes, he's positioning himself to be president, but that's because people want what he's offering: a Democrat that fights back. If he keeps fighting tooth and nail, then he's got my vote, even if I know he's trying to get it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

There was a fellow named Tom Ammiano who ran for SF mayor twice, once against Newsome. I don’t remember which run it was, but one night he came into my regular bar, pressing the flesh. I shook his hand, had a ten or twenty second chat, and was left very appreciative of the effort. I’m pretty sure I was voting for him before that. I was certain afterwards.

Yes, if a politician does things that I want a politician to do, the chances of me voting for them rise. Who knew?

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Obvs. He will unlikely renounce his corpo buddies, so I’m just gonna take these wonderful vibes for what they are and pick someone else in the primary.

3 weeks ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 3

Homie gets it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm hoping at least Newsom realizes that he's too toxic to run for the presidency when/if we get to that point, and instead overwhelmingly endorses a center-left candidate.

3 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Who the fuck am I kidding, of course he's angling for the White House.

3 weeks ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Right? I'm sure the DNC is already licking their chops when it comes to him, he ticks all the boxes of their major failures in the past few decades, they aren't about to change that "winning" formula now!

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What makes him “too toxic?”

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

His recent campaign against homeless people (he did well up until 2022 but since 2023 has been on a conservative rampage against them) and his appearances on conservative talk shows to trash-talk transgender people in sports. He's quite firmly liberal (pejorative). e.g., https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/gavin-newsom-rages-about-trans-kids-in-sports-how-democrats-hate-his-stance/ar-AA1INrLO

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He's deliberately pandering to right-wing reactionaries in an attempt to appeal to the "swing voters", the age-old Democratic tactic for presidential campaigns. That shit doesn't work any more in 2024 and beyond. Or so I'd like to think.

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He is a political opportunist, as evidenced by his attempts to play with right wing talking heads, and his veto on the ranked choice voting Bill that had come to his desk a few years ago.
