In Hawaii, one of the "Lahaina Noon" this year is July 16. This photo is real, not a bad CGI.

Also, this photo is not mine - https://www.reddit.com/r/Hawaii/comments/151mygr/photo_i_took_today_during_lāhainā_noon_of_a_level/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2

Twice a year Hawaii looks like Dark Souls II for a little while.

I love that it looks like some crappy 90's indie game with no shadows.

Yess! This is exactly what I thought of

Saying that it’s not bad CGI is the exact kind of thing someone trying to cover up bad CGI would say.

The trees look even worse. I can't even begin to describe how off they look.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neat.

I fixed for you.

Turning off shadows increases FPS

How uncomfortable this is to look at is why good lighting is important in games.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is from a video game... right? No.. Yes... wait, isn't it?

Is this post on the level?

well a shadow is indeed cast, it's just underneath it. Lift it up, you'll see it.

This isn't cgi

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. We know. Thank you.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

That’s not correct, though. There is no shadow being cast in this picture. Moving it would change the norm in h/tan, thus casting a shadow.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don’t make it weird. Just say your CPU isn’t strong enough and you have to turn off the shadows. Maybe you can also reduce the texture quality.

"Noon" has to do with east/west sun travel. Tropics and "twice a year" has to do with north/south (axis of rotation). This is definitely a thing, but has nothing to do with "noon". It would be half way between sunrise and sunset for any given location. Time zones are too wide for it to apply to all longitudes within.

I don’t like this

Hawaii isn't rendered properly. Needs more Dev time.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait wtf is this phenomenon?

It's in the sun...

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

And it's about a shadow, not a reflection.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dracula didn’t cast a shadow either.

Energy Vampires can be in the sun

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Are those creatures that get energised by sunlight, then go around squirting extra blood into people?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you recall, Dracula was walking around in sunlight he just was weaker in it. He also didn’t cast a shadow, or have a reflection in mirrors. That, my guy, is a vampire.

Unless it's overcast, this is happening somewhere on Earth every second of every day.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Not true. For it to happen, the sun have to be directly overhead. That only happens in the tropics. Also, if you are north of the Tropic of Cancer (which is all of the continental US), at high noon the shadows point north

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

The tropics are 'somewhere on Earth'. The sun is directly overhead somewhere on Earth right now, and now, and now, and now...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Nope only along the tropic of Capricorn and Cancer. And not that often. Remember the earth tilts 14° to the sun, so this doesn't happen all the time and not everywhere.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The sun is directly overhead (solar noon) somewhere, right now. Also, time zone noon and solar (this Lāhainā) noon don't agree in Hawaii.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Rethink what you just wrote...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Between the 2 tropic lines, not just along it

Let's not talk about how everything else is casting a shadow..... VAMPIRE BOLLARDS!

2 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 19

Better than vampire bollocks. You drain them then they drain you!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Vampires disintegrate in sunlight. It's reflections they don't have. These aren't vampire bollards.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're the one ring bollards?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean… only the things that have overhangs…. Wtf u talking about?

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

VAMPIRE BOLLARDS

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Ah, yes, you did mention those.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The sun is directly above, so things will shadow what's directly below. The sun isn't casting magic no-shadow light.
