I’ve seen IR remote sensors of similar design. Basically, device goes in cabinet, sensor goes outside cabinet to pick up the remote’s IR signal. Is there any parts that look purple ish? IR transparent plastic is often purplish-red.

It's an IR blaster so an A/V device can control a TV or a sound system like a regular remote does. The box end would be glued or taped in front of the IR sensor on said device, the plug end into the A/V controller

with the 3 conductor 3.5 mm jack, I would say it is an IR Transceiver.

That's one of those doohickeys that are designed for the Rockwell Retro Encabulator. Here's a brief instructional video: https://youtu.be/RXJKdh1KZ0w?si=YJ8IREiQxPcoE_-n
