To be fair, most governments are afraid of their people. That's half the reason for what they do and how they go about doing it.
There is also the sub-plot of Cartman and Butters trying to kill themselves because if you ever watched V for Vendetta, Matt and Trey are also aware of the very real risks and consequences of what they are doing. They just took Paramount's money and essentially flipped them off at the same time as telling the sitting President to go fuck himself. South Park would rather die than be part of the problem. Respect.

Its not meaningless or pointless. Paramount paid Matt and Trey 1.5 billion dollars for South Park. Just for them to make their 1st episode pretty much with the exclusive goal of antagonizing Trump who Paramount was just about to make a settlement with over a law suit. Because Trump is a petty baby there is a solid chance this could fuck up the whole deal screwing Paramount out of even more money, on top of publicly clowning the administration.

I would do more prison time selling an ounce of weed in some states than Diddy is gonna do for throwing parties for over 15 years, were people where drugged with out their knowledge than sexually violated.
