So, for the longest time I wore relatively muted earth tones. They work fine for me, and I like the way I look in them - but then I started going to metal shows and wearing the shirts/hoodies/hats of the bands that I like. They still exist, but they are definitely harder to find since it's more of a niche hobby now that technology has made music easily accessible to the 90% of people who just want to listen compared to the 10% who want more. Not meaning that negatively either. It's absolutely a personal choice and there isn't a right or wrong. However the kind of store depicted - that would be some pretty rare stuff outside of a rural town, even during the 60s or 70s.

Yeah, it's like his quote about hard work and no talent is completely out of context when he points out how much luck played into his situation. My gf often touts that I'm "lucky" in regards to certain things - I disagree, but I do position myself in such a way to be able to go through doors that open.
