The system was steadily refined and improved over the following centuries, and the position of the Prime Meridian also greatly varied. Due to Nevil Maskelyne and his team (based at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich) publishing accurate pre-calculated lunar distance predictions in an official nautical almanac, the rest of the world happily adopted the Greenwich Meridian as the Prime Meridian.
The maps are centered on the 0° longitude line (Prime Meridian) which just happens to run through Greenwich in London. This line also serves as the reference point for time.

Be careful, they thought mine wasn't fractured at first and it looked just the same as yours, then when the swelling subsided, the breaks became visible. Hope it heals quickly for you.
